Spring In The Snow

"Spring in the Snow" is a series that explores the magic and organic collaboration of the lumen printing process. Lumen printing is when flowers or leaves are contact printed onto black and white dark room photographic paper, and the chemicals from the flowers mix with the chemicals from the paper, creating interesting reactions in the form of colours on the paper. Over time the lumen prints will continue to change as they have not been "fixed", which is the process that stops the reaction and keeps the image. In order to keep them in a permanent state, the lumen prints were digitally scanned. The idea behind this work stems from being stuck in the spring tease we get in Toronto every year around the same time and wanting spring to be here so badly I decided to create a work that has spring energy. As it was snowing in April, I was able to make this series that allowed me to feel like spring was right here anyways.
